Wedding Traditions

Weddings are traditionally (but not exclusively) a religious ceremony between two people who are forming a union; the ceremony has seen a large change in attitude over the last decade. The ceremony is an opportunity to perform a traditional service and celebrate with friends and family. a legal document called a marriage license must be signed before the law recognizes a couple is married. There are a great many traditions around the world but the terms bride and groom before the couple are married are seemingly universal; they are then referred to by the title husband and wife, once they are married.

Marriages in a Church

As soon as you look outside of your own race, religious and social group, the wedding tradition can become very complex. Even in today’s climate, the traditional Church ceremony is still the most popular service. White weddings may be quite normal for those of us that live in the United States, UK, Ireland and the Commonwealth but they are not always accepted worldwide amongst Christian faiths.

Twin Ceremonies

A rare type of marriage is where two separate couples decide to marry at the same time; this often happens where a person has a brother or sister that decides to tie the knot at the same time and it is not unheard of for two brothers to marry two sisters this way.

Weddings in a Foreign Country

These days it is easy for couples to arrange a wedding in another country and have the guests travel to them with the honeymoon continuing afterwards; the definition of a destination wedding is flexible as you don’t actually have to leave your country for it to qualify, just so it isn’t in your home town.

Themed Weddings

Two day or weekend weddings are a great way to extend the ceremony and festivities as an increasing number of people are finding out. Other occasions come under the term of either themed or special activity which usually takes place over a weekend period. Accommodation for these is normally arranged at the place where the service is going to take place and where the other events are also being held.

Online Marriages

An online wedding is conducted on the internet which can resemble a normal ceremony; there are even guides for information on how to go about an internet ceremony with information on people that can carry it out for you. Strangely, if you decide to have your marriage shown online in real time it is called an online wedding.

Civil Ceremonies

A civil wedding is a ceremony presided over by a local civil authority, such as an elected or appointed judge, justice of the peace or the mayor of a locality. For people that elect this type of ceremony it is not important to them if God or religion is referred to in such a brief service. Owing to the brevity of these ceremonies, the persons getting married do not mind if they are carried out in a city hall or even a courtroom.
