Whilst in some parts of the world, particularly in Asia, pale skin is considered iconic, in most Western cultures, it is a tan that is the object of desire. Exposed to images of bronzed and accessorized starlets, we associate a tan with glamour. Their tans imply luxury and an affluent life. Whilst the antibacterial cleaners are good, there’s nothing like having your own tanning bed for peace of mind.

And that’s without having to spend hours lying on the beach. Most tanning beds have facial tanners that you can use to lightly tan your face without exposing it too much. And if you add up how much you would spend at the tanning salon over the average life span of a residential tanning bed, its easy to see how it would pay for itself.
