Series 2 of Fonejacker begins
The show follows a fictional man simply called the Fonejacker, played by actor Kayvan Novak, who is a masked prank caller who calls unsuspecting members of the public as various characters. Throughout the show on-screen animations are used, featuring pictures of people with moving mouths, in a style reminiscent of Monty Python. Through undercover filming, certain scenes show the Fonejacker calling a company nearby from the street. A red and white balaclava (black in the Pilot) and a pair of sunglasses make up his standard uniform.
Kayvan Novak is not usually seen as the Fonejacker; however he plays a role during Mr Doovdé’s calls, playing a model advertising various items, such as DVD players and for dfs.
Starting with a definition of the word “fonejack” (to seize control of a telephone conversation by farce esp - to divert it from reason and logic), most episodes continue with a scene showing Mr Doovdé using an American payphone to call the Directory Enquires. However Mike headlined the fifth episode instead of Mr Doovdé.
The last episode of series 1 revealed that two callers had previously been fonejacked by Terry, implying that phonejacker does not tell the victim the call was a joke. Some Fonejacks aren’t broadcast, since those two re-incident victims had not appeared in previous episodes.
Channel 4 runs a show called Comedy Lab focused on new comic talent; this is where Fonejacker’s pilot first appeared, in 2006. Thanks to its popularity, it was decided in October 2006 that a six-part series would be set for broadcast on E4 starting April 2007. There was also a Christmas special with the title Fonejacker’s Christmas Message; it was broadcast on December 29, 2006, and it was essentially five-minute short version of the pilot. Fonejacker: Coming April 2007 - Don’t Pick Up The Phone; this message came as a warning, in the end of the show.
In March, a teaser trailer started to air on Channel 4 and E4, which consisted of clips of the pilot put together into a thirty second advert. For reasons unknown the show wasn’t aired in April, and it was actually put on hold, Rumours began spreading it would start in June 7 2007, but that never happened either. After this, rumours spread that the show would start on June 7 2007, which was also false. Whilst fans thought there was no hope for the show, new trailers aired in June. Within the new clips, a television was shown broadcasting a news report: “New sightings of the Fonejacker”, even as he continued making various calls. The new advert was branded with the catchphrase Don’t Pick Up The Phone and the same E4 URL. Not many days after that, a new advert was introduced.
Just a few hours before the airing of his show, the Fonejacker called into Big Brother’s Little Brother, pretending he was Terry Tibbs chatting with one Carrie about a Rolls Royce. Much to the surprise of presenter Dermot O’Leary, it was obvious the Fonejacker called unannounced. All throughout the night, there was a warning of sorts placed just below E40s on-screen graphic: “Fonejacker Tonight 10-30”.
The fan site has many soundboards, im quite particular to the fonejacker soundboard that features terry tibbs, this one always makes me giggle.
From the first independent edition of Fonejacker, on July 5, 2007 at 10-30 pm, the show started using strong profanity. The second series was broadcast beginning on September 9 2008. To the present date, it’s still unknown whether a third series will be commissioned.
