Moron Drivers with No Headlights

Why do so many moron drivers insist on driving in inclement, foggy or twilight conditions with no headlights whatsoever??

Come on, people, it doesn’t have to be midnight to require headlights!  Just because you can see to drive doesn’t mean your vehicle itself is easily visible!

So what if it’s mid-day; if it’s rainy or foggy, you should have your headlights on.  Hey, you don’t even have to do it to be considerate of other drivers–do it for yourself for your own personal safety.

If other drivers can see you, there’s less chance of a wreck involving YOUR vehicle.  Be for real, people!  You may be able to rationalize blocking the left-hand passing lane (especially since many say they do it to force others to obey the speed limit–a “safety measure,” in their minds), but there is NO good reason for not taking a safety precaution as simple as turning on your headlights in dim driving conditions.

I agree on headlights in dim conditions. I heard that in Florida, if you have your wipers on, you must have yours headlights on. Could be good for all of us.

I totally agree with Kimber!!! I hate it when people do not turn on their headlights. Anybody out there want to express why they risk their own lives as well as others?? Come on people, “think” for a change! Thanks I needed that!

Although I agree with you about the lights on in a car when there is inclement weather, I felt it necessary to relate a humorous story regarding it. I rarely turn on my lights during moderate weather, unless it is getting dark. I feel if I can see other cars without their lights on and I can see my gauges I don’t need my lights on. However, one day I went shopping with a friend who yelled at me cuz my lights were not on. So I turned my lights and went on my way. When I got into my car several hours later, oops, I had left the lights on. I was so angry! But, I made a friend feel safe when normally I would have just gone on my way. But, next time it is overcast, I will think of it and probably turn my lights on.

In reference to headlights…another point of view are the inconsiderate drivers who NEVER dim their brights when approaching an oncoming car. I am in the habit of flashing my lights when these people “forget” that their brights are blinding me and may cause me to vere over in their lane. One night I flashed a couple times and went on my way. The next moment I realized the car was u-turning in the center of the road and was coming after me. Then the red flashing lights came on. I pulled over and the officer gets out and asks me why I was flashing my lights at him. It was an unmarked car. When I told him he had his brights on and I usually flashed at those who forgot to dim, he told me not to be a smart ass. I apologized and he went on his way. We did have a good laugh after he left. Do I still flash at the oncoming cars who don’t dim? You bet! Policeman or not, it is still dangerous and annoying. Be kind and remember to dim dose lights!!!!

In regards to Kirsten’s note about leaving your headlights on. Let me relate a funny story. On our honeymoon, we went to the coast. On the way there we had to buy a new tire (our entire honeymoon budget was $500 - we were not expecting to have to replace a tire). When we finally got to the coast, it was dark, but we wanted so badly to see the ocean. So I drove into a parking lot, turned off the lights and when we left, I forgot to turn back on the headlights. A cop stopped me, thinking I was drunk. NO, I was just an extremely nervous, never been stopped before, newlywed. It did teach me a good lesson though. I made it a habit (only takes about 2 weeks) to turn on my lights always. I now so automatically turn on and turn off headlights that I never even realize I do it. By the way, the cop just congratulated us on our marriage, and sent us on our way. Whewww!
